Spock's various attempts to delay bedtime:

Spock: I have to poop.

Daddy: You have to poop? You pooped earlier.

Spock: My tummy is empty but I am waiting to poop. Jesus said I must poop...

Daddy: What?! Jesus didn't ask you to poop! No more excuses - stay in bed.

Spock: But I need more excuses!

A classic

During bedtime reading:

Spock: I want you to read this (Dr Seuss's The Grinch who stole Christmas) to me.

Mommy: Are you sure - it may be scary for you and you may get nightmares. Let's read another one.

Spock: No. I want this one. It's a classic - you must read it to me!

Mealtime banter

After tasting his chicken, Spock says...

"Yummy chicken! ...I love chicken... Why do we eat animals?...(Daddy gives him a reasonable answer)... Thank you, Mommy, for this wonderful food!...Why do we close our eyes when we pray?...(To Daddy) Can I have a little bit of your broccoli?...(To Mommy) Your food is very good!"

P.S.: His mom is THRILLED that he loves broccoli.

SR Nathan - the President of Singapore:

While watching the Singapore National Day parade on television, Spock sees the President of Singapore, SR Nathan, and claims that he's TaaTaa (my boss at work, LT Jeyachandran, whom S affectionately calls, TaaTaa - Grandfather in Hindi):

Spock: That's TaaTaa!

Mommy: Are you sure?

Spock: Yes! I like TaaTaa. He's a good guy.

Mommy: They've left for home.

Advised to refrain from eating immediately after his procedure, Spock was hungry and insisted on a lunch of rice:

Spock: I want lunch!

Mommy: Here, drink some water instead.

Spock: But water doesn't give us energy! Right?

I'm a nice guy

Spock was "disciplining" his little (toy) pigs:

Do you know why I gave you time-out? You must listen to me when I tell you something. You have to listen to me... I'm a nice guy!

Grow tall

Spock: I want to grow taller. I want to grow taller like my friends.

Mommy: Which of your friends are taller than you?

Spock: Mommy and daddy are tall. I want to be tall like Mommy and Daddy.

Spock: Look, the man is giving the little girl some ice-cream.

Daddy: Yeah...

Spock: Good man!

Constructions

We were fixing up an Ikea shelf and Brian suggested that we read the instructions. Spock immediately picks up the instruction details and goes:

Spock: Yes, we must read the constructions. First, you fix this. Do we have this part, do we have this? (pointing to a detail on the page)

Mommy: Yes, we do.

Spock: Then, you do this construction. Next you *mumble, mumble* construction. The end!

Speaking Chinese

Lying on his side facing the wall at bedtime:

Spock: *mumbles, mumbles* (to himself)

Mommy: What are you saying?

Spock: Shh - I'm speaking Chinese.

Defiantly cute

During time-out:

Daddy: Do you know why you're sent to time-out?

Spock: Huh? (Denying any wrong-doing)

Daddy: What did you do that Daddy sent you to time-out?

Spock: Huh? (Still alleging innocence)

Daddy: You swung your drumsticks across the room and picked up your drum set stool and threw it hard on the floor despite Daddy warning you not to do so.

Spock: Err... it's possible (!)

Good day

Spock: How was your day at work, Mommy?
Mommy: Good.
Spock: I had a good day at school.

Happy? Bob your head!

Spock: If you're happy and you know it, bob your head - Boing, boing.

Invites me to jam with him:

Spock: I want Mommy play the guitar... I want Mommy play the saxophone.

Naked dog

Walking home from the creche, Spock spots a dog on a leash:

Spock: The doggy's naked!

Daddy: Well, he's wearing a collar and a leash - that's pretty much what a dog needs.

Spock: I want to buy the doggy clothes.

"Dawww"

*Disclaimer: Spock doesn't watch any television and hence we don't know where he got the following idea from!

Spock: I want to buy a (toy) gun, Mommy.

Mommy: Why do you need a gun?

Spock: I don't like the ones I have. (He often pretends that his L-shaped Duplos are guns)

Mommy: Why not? What's wrong with them?

Spock: I want to buy one that makes a sound when I shoot - Dawww!

Don't ask us why but we have no idea why S's guns go "Dawww" instead of "Bang."

Love for sick mommy

Mommy: *cough, cough*
Spock: Are you not feeling well, Mommy?
Mommy: Yes, Mommy is sick.
Spock: I want to make Mommy feel better. (places his hand on my chest and pats it gently)

Book hugger

Reading about Jacob and Esau before bedtime:

Daddy: And Esau was very angry at Jacob...
Sympathetic Spock: I wanna hug angry Esau! (pulls book over kisses picture of Esau and hugs book)

Girlfriends

Daddy: Tomorrow you'll go to school and see your teachers, Miss Tan, your friends...
Spock: My girlfriend...
Daddy: Who is your girlfriend?
Spock: Kayla, Preeti, Miss Tan.

Kitchen small talk

Mommy and Spock making small talk in the kitchen:

Spock: What are you doing, Mommy?
Mommy: Peeling a carrot.
Spock: Wow! That's hard work.
